What can I do to make this image more appealing?

I recently just purchased a Nikon D3100 and took pictures at a friend's basketball game with the 18-55mm kit lens. Can anyone offer some suggestions as to how I can edit this image to make it more appealing to the eye? I want it to focus on the two in the middle. I have tried the color splash effect and this is how it turned out:
