High Quality Compact

I'm currently in the market for a high quality compact camera so I can carry it with me where ever I go and I am really interested in the idea of having a Foveon sensor camera. So a Sigma compact seems like the way to go but I was wondering what the major differences between the all the SD1s, 2, 2s, 1x, 2x. Also, how are they when shooting in manual mode? are there dedicated dials and buttons or do you have to go through menus like some compact cameras?
