Need a camera for close ups and just normal pic.

Hi
I need a camera for taking pictures of Jewelry, and it need to be sharp, i dont know how to really explain it And then i need it for taking normal pic's.
A friend told me to buy either olympus epl2 or Canon EOS 550D.
But i dont know what to choose, or if its the right camera for the job.
