5D MKII/Vivitar 285 & slave no worky?

Hi everybody,

I was using a slave triggered 285 for a hair light today, and although it was firing, it wasn't syncing with with my other, Canon, flashes. I eventually just ran a PC cable to it and all was fine, but I don't know why it didn't work with the slave. Can someone impart some wisdom?
