Use of generic inks?
May 8, 2011

Too long a story. OK. I just got a new to me used EIZO CG241W and after setting it up did a print on my Epson R1900. I was surprised that the print was just what I saw on the screen. That wasn't the case with my old EIZO FlexScan L5XXX. I was so happy I decided to print something else... Oops! out of cyan.

I made the 75 mile trip to Spokane and none of the normal stores carried R1900 inks. I was directed to a cartridge store and bought a generic R1900 ink, brand WOX. With some misgivings I put it in the computer and printed the same photo. Same exact results. I can't tell the difference.

The generic new cartridge is $4 - 5 cheaper than the Epson cartridge. A refill is cheaper, still.

Are these cartridges safe to use in the printer? Are some OK, and other's not OK.

It seems that Epson has closed out the production of the R1900, and I'm worried that they may stop making the inks.
