What is the point

I often wonder just what is the point of taking photos other than self satisfaction

I have my wedding album taken by a professional, it was looked at by myself and my wife err once on receipt and several times in the first few weeks to show friends
it is still here but never opened for over 40 years

My own photography, many thousands of photos, they were looked at when we first received them back from the processor, put in albums and ten years later pulled out to show the newly engaged couple, of daughter aged 12 in a mess/70's fashion clothes then never seen again still in the album and on a shelf

An excellent photo of son aged ten, printed on canvas, and on the wall, Jeeso he is 35 now

An excellent capture of a BIF, looked at after processed, shown twice and never seen again

I have just gone through 4500 slides taken from 1950 to 70 for a 78 year old Aunt
captured the ones with people on, placed on DVD and ditched the 4300 of scenes

These had not been viewed since 1970 when the last lot of slides came back from processing

So why do we bother other than to ?
Waste time (amateur)
Make money (professional)

Amateur to pass time and say I got that, Never to be viewed again
Professional to make money, Never to be viewed again

It is a strange world
