S5 Pro: What lens would do better here

I shot this scene last week at Longhua Temple (Tamron 17-50mm, shot at 17mm). As you can see, the entire scene is not captured. I had to use portrait framing to get as much of the statues in frame as possible. Still, I'm not too happy with how it looks. I guess wider is better but does that then make everything smaller? Would you be satisfied with scene like this captured with a Tokina 11-16mm lens for example? I get this a lot and wonder what lens I need to add to my collection.
