Machu Picchu Landscape Lens

We're going to Peru and Machu Picchu in August and I would like to take some of those wonderful wide angle shots over the area. I'm not sure what type of lens to get. I could buy something around $500. Anything more I would probably have to rent.

Also, I probably won't have a tripod. I may have my walking stick. So should I make sure the lens has IS or a really large aperture (f2.8)?

I have a Canon EF-S T2i Rebel with the stock EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens and a 55-250MM F/4-5.6 IS lens. I'm not sure what I should be looking for in a wide angle. Should I try to get a really wide max aperture (like the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM or the Canon EF 20mm f/2.8 USM Autofocus Lens) or should I be looking at the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM.

Please don't chastise me for asking stupid questions. I'm still learning.
