Are You a Prime or Zoom Shooter?
Apr 28, 2011

Are you a Prime or Zoom shooter? What lens types do you use most often? Pentax is known for their primes and small unique camera bodies. While I have a good selection of primes (DA15, DA21, DA35 ltd, DA 40, FA 50, FA 77, DA 300) in most shooting situations I use a zoom like a DA 12-24 or DA* 60-250, at least for landscapes. In my experience, my primes are used for very unique shooting situations, like macro. For example, I use the DA 15 for landscape/flower shots where I need close focussing and the incredible flare control.

While Pentax zooms are not that well regarded outside of Pentax, there are several such as DA*50-135 and DA* 60-250 that would compete IQ wise with any brand; AF speed is another matter. The versatility of zooms is what makes me reach for them the most often.

It would be interesting to see what is your main shooting style.
