60D visits Petra, Jordan

I recently looked in at Petra, Jordan, the ancient Nabataean city hewn out of solid stone cliffs. It's quite challenging to photograph, as many of the interesting venues are unfortunately in the shadow of the high cliffs during the "magic hours" around sunrise and sunset, when the light is most compelling. But even today, after a couple of thousand years, the place is amazing; it must have been unimaginably impressive during its heyday. Here are a few sample images:
