450D / XSi front focus problems on trees only
Apr 26, 2011

Recently my trusty Sony Alpha 100 was replaced as a walk-around DSLR by an XSi/EOS 450D. So far, so good but now I noticed several times that the XSi has an ugly front focusing issue when taking shots of green foliage, particularly around sunset as it seems.

Images of other subjects are usually focused just fine.

I never experienced anything similar with my Sony, nor with my EOS 5D.

A little research about front focusing issues on the XSi brought up some statements about suspected IR sensitivity of the AF sensors, and about AF errors depending on the type of illumination present. Green leaves indeed appear very bright in IR landscape images - and that's exactly the subject on which the AF of my XSi goes berserk and creates massive front focus.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

If yes: I this an XSi-only issue?
