how does live view work?

Im a newbie, but as i understand this is how camera looks like. lens, mirror, shutter, sensor. when we enter live view the mirror is moved and we cant look via viewfinder, but we can on screen. we see on the screen what sensor sees. the thing i cannot understand is what happens with a shutter? does it move out and come back when we focus? but live view is active all the time, theres no blackouts as there is in viewfinder during the exposure. And doesnt long using of live view overheats the sensor?
