If shooting at f/22, is a fast 1.8 lens still considered fast?

The autofocus system is going to be faster in some situations using a faster lens. The aperture doesn't stop down until right before the shutter releases, so a faster lens is going to provide more light to the autofocus system. In situations where you have a lot of light, you may not notice, but in low light situations it can make a big difference. Even when manually focusing a faster lens is going to give you a brighter picture.
