backup or sync

I would like to back up a directory and its subdirectories daily, ideally to a flash drive in the same computer. I do backup the whole disk monthly but would like not to lose a month's work if the worst happens. Not a lot of bytes, mostly word files. Is there a program I can set up to do this? Synctoy? .... Any suggestions.?
