Is D50 worth it as the "smallest screw driven" Nikon camera?

I see a lot of enticing screw lenses and I want the smallest camera to drive them. My D40 looks nice and small compared to my D7000 for some occasions where I do not want to intimidate family members.

Will the D50 fly as a smallish D40 type presence? Or is it just too much like the D90?
