70-200mm VRII - Should I.......
Apr 11, 2011

Spring for one of these now....

The scenario: Body: Nikon D700, Glass: 16-35mm f4 (totally love this lens), 50G (also totally love) and 24-120 f4 VR (Like, but its just OK).

Major works: Travel, documenting child, marathon running coverage, air shows, albeit occasional.

Reasoning: Dump 24-120, I just don't seem to get the use or the love of this lens. The 50G lives on the camera 65% of the time, the 16-35 25% and the 24-120 10%. Not sure why this is. Additionally, not a fan of the bokeh of the 24-120 for portraits. Purchase 70-200 for portrait use, running coverage and the occasional airshow, although it will be hopeless for holidays due to weight.

Alternative, stick as I am. I'm not desperately keen on spending huge money at the moment, but then again I will not scrimp and by an off-brand.

Is the 16/35, 50G and 70/200 perfect and will I miss the 24-120? The idea of a holiday kit of 16/35 and 50G also appeals. Any thoughts folks? Many thanks.
