Which one is better?

Last weekend I went on a hike in Gruyère, Switzerland.
It was exceptionally warm for the season: over 22 degres
They say it hasn't been so warm at this time of year since the 50s!

On the way back, I spotted this barn which I thought look great against the mountainous/alpine background. Both shots taken with a K5 + Sigma 17-70, the first one at the long end and the 2nd one at the short end. BW conversion in LR 3.

Which one do you like better and why?

1. 70mm at f/8

2. 17mm at f/8
