Is there any reason not to get the EF 50mm f/1.4?

I want something cheap ($400), small (pocket-able), sharp (at f/1.4), and well built (compared to 15-85mm)

I have no idea about this lens, I know it's $550 brand new ... But is it pocket-able? How bad is it wide open? How is the build compared to lenses like the 17-55mm and 15-85mm?

I was considering manual focus lenses because I had heard horrible things about Canon's 50mm lenses (exception is 50mm f/1.2L but I don't want it)

If it matters I'll be shooting on a 7D. How's the autofocus? I know bokeh isn't the best but I guess you get what you pay for.
