HELP: 70-200 VR and TC-14e II

I recently purchased a TC-14e II from bhphoto for my 70-200 VR (1st version). When I combined this setup with my d300s, the camera wouldn't focus and I noticed that I wasn't able to change the aperture at all.

In fact, it treated the lens/tele combo as a non-CPU lens. Also, I noticed that the aperture is fully open until I take an image, in which case it looks like the shutter closes fully. Meaning, the metering is fine, but the image is completely dark (unless I overexpose by quite a few stops by slowing down the shutter speed).

I know that the 70-200 works with a Kenko 1.4x tele and the d300s (I recently tried this), but I can't figure out why it wont work with the Nikon TC-14e II.

I was hoping that you guys would have some insight. I have tried to clean out the contacts on the lens, the teleconverter, and the camera, but no success. Any ideas before I contact BH for a replacement?

Thanks!
