S9100, NO AUTO IMAGE ROTATION? Nikon - you're kidding, right?

Just took the S9100 out for a spin. Great start-up times, intuitive menus, a wonderful 18X zoom in a "medium" pocket format, sharpness acceptable using center-weighted or manual focus (actually, user-adjustable works great). Video is OK, panorama's, fast continuous shooting at hi-res, handheld twilight, etc. Great implementation of the Sony EXMOR-R CMOS package. Maybe this is THE ONE?
Then the sickening realization. NO AUTO IMAGE ROTATION? Seriously? I read on CNET that the new Nikon P500 also has no auto image rotate and could not believe that a $300+ camera these days doesn't support this. Can't be true.
Nikon - how hard can this be? Hello, Nikon? Anyone home?
