Not even close. The Faronics product was designed for developers who need to try new things and often trash the system. No matter, you get it all back when you log off. This allows the kids to experiment yet protects the computers for the next user. The Guest account does none of this.

Actually, that's exactly what the guest account does. Everything done within the guest account is gone when the guest logs out. The next guest gets a fresh login. An admin user can set what the guest can and cannot do, which apps they can run, etc. It's ideal for a Mac in a public setting, which is what the original poster asked.
