Why no NHDK like CHDK?( Nikon vs. Canon)

The Nikonians here must have heard about CHDK (Canon Hack Development Kit), a firmware enhancement developed and freely distributed over Net by some Canon enthusiasts. It operates on a number of Canon Cameras, particularly on P & S cameras, provides additional functionality beyond that currently provided by the native camera firmware.

Is there any such NHDK (Nikon Hack Development Kit)? If not, can anyone tell me why there is no such thing? Is it because Nikon – firmware can not be hacked or because it can not be installed on Nikon via Cards as Canon.

Surely, we the Nikonians are no less genius than Canonians for not being able to develop this.
