K100D image quality
Mar 7, 2011

My wife used to use a Panasonic film camera, a C900ZM, at least 20 years old now, and about as basic as it gets (only control seems to be to adjust the zoom). She'd shoot the film (typically Kodak Gold 200ASA) and then take it in to be developed into 6x4 prints.

Now she uses the K100D, with the kit-zoom, always RAW and uses Lightroom 1.4. She then saves jpegs and uploads to BonusPrint, who then print them (also 6x4) and mail them back. She finds a couple of matters unsatisfactory:

1) Colour balance seems off in that grass tends towards yellow which she can fix to some extent in LR but not enough. (I.e., the RAW images suffer from this, not merely the printed pictures).

2) She feels the RAW images lack contrast, but she's able to rescue this in LR, for the most part.

3) Colours lack saturation, compared to what the Panny produced (again, noticeable in the RAW images).

Her beef is that she has to do this with most/all of the images, and feels that she shouldn't, in general, need to. Could there be some settings that need to be adjusted to eliminate all these steps, or is this to be expected from the K100D.
