do-it-yourself X100 adapter ring

The $50 adapter ring is quite fancy. The inner bore constitutes a 49mm female-female adapter -- this screws over the male threads on the X100 body, and allows commercial filters to screw in to the female threads on the front. In addition there is a male bayonet fitting on the outboard outer diameter which mates with the lens hood.
You may be able to fashion a female-female adapter for a pittance. Just take two 52-49mm step-down rings, and glue them face to face. This will leave 52mm male threads at each end of the assembly, and 49mm female threads through the length of the inner bore. It is the latter which will be used for mounting accessory filters (or perhaps a collapsible rubber hood).
I'm all set to try this, just as soon as I get my camera.
