What makes the IQ of the 5dmkii so good, compared to 7D?
Mar 5, 2011

I keep reading about owners of 5dmkii raving about the quality. I just wonder what could make the quality so good compared to, for example even the 7D? I mean the 7D sensor is state of the (canon) art and the crop size shouldn't be a disadvantage per se. And some people shoot with same lenses . Yet people rave about the 5dmkii even if they own and compare it to a 7d. So what could it be?

  • Is it the AA filter? or some other internal processing?

  • is it that people choose a smaller dof automatically, which gives photos more pop?

  • are their better photographers behind the machine?

  • is 21mp better rendered on a pc monitor?

For this last point, i have a 40d. On my full HD monitor, a picture is shown 33% in photoshop to show full picture. And photoshop does a bad job here. Images do not look nice on my pc in PS when shown fully. PS rendering somehow sucks . When i sharpen i always do this in 50% or 100% view, so i have to zoom in. I can imagine something like this turns out very beneficial for the 5 dmkii and gives it an onscreen advantage.
