I just saw Tom's post on my way out the door so I don't have time to craft a well thought out and diplomatic response.

But Tom's list is not the ideal equipment to take general purpose pics of a baby indoor in often low light conditions. Sure, the 1.8 50mm can do that but as discussed earlier in the thread, it's limited.

A good zoom in the 17-50 mm range with a large-ish constant aperture is a better choice because it is still long enough to take very reasonable portraits as well as wide enough to be useful indoors when you want more in the picture.

A flash is a nice add-on for the times when a bounce is necessary but it can be purchased later.

OP, get a good body and a good fast zoom and you are away to the races.
