Help! B&W processing

I love taking pics of Granddaughter and making them black and white or sepia. I can't get this one right though. It started out as a very bright in the sun pic, I actually love the contrast it has as B&W, but it messes up her skin tone for some reason. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

I edited it in lightroom and paint shop pro. It makes her arm look like it has a rash
