I believe that my E-1 does the preferable thing; for digitally pushed ISOs (1600 and 3200), it records the sensor data from the underlying underexposed ISO 800 shot, and then it's up to the RAW converter to adjust the tone curve internally.

But I also recall some complaints where people had to add in the extra +1 or +2 by hand because their RAW converter wasn't handling this correctly. Maybe the manufacturers decided that there's less chance of the consumer being surprised if the camera does the multiplication itself before writing the RAW file.
