Can't Always Trust Local Photo Shop

OK just another reason you can't blindly trust what you're told.

I called my fairly well respected local shop Saturday to see if they had an XZ-1 in stock. The lady politely put me on hold and came back after about 2 minutes and told me "That's not a camera we'd normally carry". Oh, OK, hmmm, well why not. Well you know Olympus isn't as big as C and N but we do carry the Oly water proof cameras. Yes mam I understand, and I'm a hard core Nikon guy, but surely with all the buzz over the XZ-1 you'll carry it........ insert crickets here........ She said well we haven't heard anything about it.......

Well mam it's kinda taking the internet by storm with it's (relatively) low MP yet large sensor coupled with a high quality very fast lens. Oh and dpreview gave it their gold award and basically said it's currently the best of the compacts. She then told me they recommend the Canon S95 in those instances and I said yes it's a great camera, but at f2 - f4.9 it just doesn't compare well to f1.8 - f2.5. She then said, oh you want a fast lens; well the new Nikon P300 has an f1.8 lens. Yes mam but it has a very small sensor. She seemed at a loss for what to say after that and I just gave up. She told me they'd "look into it" and I should check back later.

Now I'm not bashing them as they have a lot to keep up with. I'm merely pointing out that we need to know basically what we want before asking the question. Of course this is preaching to the choir; so mostly I'm just relating a semi amusing story.
