Would the E-5 have made a difference in this backlit photo?

I tried pretty much everything I know to do while taking this photo with my E-1 yesterday, trying spot metering on the eagle but still too dark for a decent photo. Would the E-5 have any features that might have gotten the shot for me? Thanks!
