Unless you're into its diminutive size, no.

I have the Nik0n version (and also owned the DA*). The DA* 50-135 is a lot better than this lens. The Vivitar exhibits quite a bit of bokeh CA - they show up in greener-than-normal backgrounds.

For the 300mm - the DAL 55-300 would be quite a bit sharper than the Vivitar with a 2x TC, of course we're talking about $200 more expensive here, but IMHO it's totally worth it because the Vivitar 150mm with 2x will definitely not be the last 300mm setup you own, while the 55-300mm has a chance to be.

On the other hand, if you're into old MF lens, the Vivitar 100 or 105mm f/2.8 macro (Lester Dine) is a phenomenal lens. Full metal construction, sharp, no CA at all. Got mine for $150 and its performance is up there with $800 macro lenses.

I have a friend who dug this lens out of the closet. Is it something I should be interested in?
I currently have the DA* 5-135, FA 50 f1.4 & kit.

If I am not mistaken (and I probably am) this lens can double as a macro? And by some telephoto thing-a-ma-jig it can do 300mm which is a focal length I would love to explore even if it is manual focus.
