Battery Bulge

I have an Early 2008 17" MBP that I bought just after the Unibodies were released (price dropped down at best buy clearance) I just dropped $200 to buy a new Top case (trackpad) because the button stopped clicking. When going to remove battery for installation I noticed the bulge (massive) in the battery. Got the topcase/trackpad installed not thinking the issues were related.
Does anyone know if the BUlging batteries are still covered for free replacement? I see searching that they were early last year and prior, but nothing recently. The battery had Approx 300 cycles and was at 81% health according to iStat when I stopped using the laptop for the trackpad not clicking issue.
