Macro Lens
Feb 13, 2011

I have Olympus E-300 camera with the original lenses that was sold with the camera:

  • Standard Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm

  • Standard Zuiko Digital ED 14-45mm

One thing I was always missing with the lenses was the ability to take macro photos. I'm not sure if macro is the right word but for example a portrait picture where only the face is in focus or part of the face:

In addition to the above examples I would like to be able to take close-up macros such as these:

I'm ready to upgrade my set of lenses and get something that will get the job done. Olympus offers 2 macro lenses:

  • Standard Zuiko Digital 35mm F3.5 Macro ($229)

  • High Grade Zuiko Digital ED 50mm F2.0 Macro ($499)

I'm not a professional photographer and only use my SLR camera couple times a year but the macro photos is something I was missing for years in the SLR.

Will any of the above allow me to the macro photos as the examples above? Over $200 price difference between the standard and High Grade seems a lot. Is the HG lens really worth the money?

Thanks Jim.
