Card reader or cable?

I quickly found cables and software awkward, so use cards: initially with readers, but now have a card slot in my desktop printer, so use that in the office, and use my netbook card slot to back up the day's pix when travelling.

I don't clear and reformat the card each time I back up the day's pix, just copy to the desktop or netbook hard disks, so that I still have a copy of the pix on the card as well. When I finally transfer the pix to at least two other devices, I reformat the card when it is near full.
