The 105 Micro is a good fl. for FX portraiture.

Nailing color will be most important. If you are using Lightroom 3 or ACR with Photoshop CS5, the camera profile will be important. The Adobe Standard camera profile sucks with the D700. You might want to look at the ColorChecker Passport, although some people don't like what it does to skin tones. You can still use the color chart, but create the profile with the free Adobe DNG Profile Editor. Alternatively, look at the new V3 profiles from Adobe.

You will find out with trial shots, but I think you might need more strobe power.
