I'm afraid to take the D700, but want the great shots it's capable of.

Afraid of what? There's virtually no place I wouldn't take my D700 if there was a photo op at the other end. dave

Afraid of SMASHING my D700 & lens between ice & my fat body!
I used to be a great skier in the early 80's, but I haven't skied since!

I told my son & daughter I would take them skiing this weekend. My son (18) claims he's a pro when he goes with the ski club at school, My daughter (20) has never skied & wants to learn how, My wife wants nothing to do with skiing other than to sip a margarita by the fire in the lodge & watch me through the windows as I probably break a hip or something!

I hope it's like getting on a bicycle after a 27 year absence,& putting on a few pounds!

Seven Springs? I've braved it a few times with the D700+24-70 combo. Never with the 70-200 though, too big and bulky. Usually just throw the camera in my TT Digital Holster and over the shoulder it goes.

Yep, Seven Springs. If I do take the D700, it will be the 85 f1.8.
