I can see where you're coming from though as one will need even more support/shutterspeed compared to using the D7000, because one would need a longer focal length with FX for the same framing.

No, not just that. 24 megapixels on an FX body provide hardly better resolution when one shoots handheld compared to 12 megapixels. 12 megapixel DX body provides better resolution compared to cropped 24 megapixel FX (larger mirror, larger shutter, more slap - not just larger lens). On a Gitzo GT3530LS extended to 4.5' with legs on a full spread (parking lot, no traffic, no wind, remote from a laptop, MLU, Makro-Planar T* 2/100 at f/5.6, f/8, f/4, shutter speeds 1/60, 1/125, 1/250, 10 shots, 10 sec pause between shots, selection of better 3 shots), FX24 vs FX12, difference is 10%. Fixed in a vise, FX24 resolves 20% better than FX12. All AA filters were taken off for these measurements. I expect a very steady mount will add another 10 to 15% going from 24 megapixels to 36 megapixels and no practical difference between 32 and 36 megapixels. And yes, 36 and 48 megapixels sensors are under tests for full-frame bodies, and it does not seem that at the moment the results are good enough for the engineering to decide to put any of those into production; while 18 megapixel FX sensor seems like no-brainer. However marketing will get it their way. The only thing that holds marketing from even more arm-twisting is that money is not in the market of 36 megapixel FX cameras.
