weird wildlife behaviour

I've put this on a dutch birding forum but noone had an explanation there.
A duo of rose ringed parakeets passed over me and landed in this three. I had to move a few steps to get them in a good position for a shot. I then noticed this.
To my amazement this bird was hanging like this for about two minutes, then it dropped and flew away.
Anyone ever seen this before?
