Thaipusam procession 2011 (gore warning- not for the faint hearted!)

Just wanted to share some of the images I took with of my now ancient FZ20 in Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur on 20th Jan.

They cover the Thaipusam festival which is celebrated by the Tamil community in Malaysia in Jan/Feb every year.

It was quite a surreal experience witnessing these devotees carrying 'kavadi' in a trance-like state while I was jostling in the crowd to take the images. Though, as strange as it may sounds, the mood of the procession seemed far more jollier than these pictures may suggest; everybody was really having a good time including the devotees with the burdens.

Can't really say 'enjoy' the pics, but hope you find them interesting.
