60D focus operation - something unique? - question for XD / XXD owners

60D owners , I appreciate your response - also comments would be welcome from 50D and 7D owners in case something different is happening in those models.
I have noted something interesting with my 60D and its kit lens. I wonder if it is just my gear, a feature of the 60D, or is it a common feature of most recent Canons.
Please try these two little tests...
Set focus to all points and point the camera around focusing on various objects.
Now repeat but do it with only one focus point active - middle or outer, doesn't seem to matter..
Carefully observe the red LED focus confirm lamps in the viewfinder, and take note of your lens AF function. Is there something different happening when using the two different methods?
I'm not going to bias your result by saying what I have seen, I will comment later.
