I think that is only because still photographers have not had it available. A monitor is great for anything that needs careful setup -- product and still life, architecture, landscape and so on. Or anything at odd angles such as ground level, overhead or on a boom. In some situations one can work tethered to a computer or laptop, but there are times when a more portable solution would be nice.

I'm not expecting Sony to have the perfect or even the best answer -- and almost certainly not the cheapest. What I do like is that they seem to be looking to the future while some of the camera companies seem to be focused on the past.
