70-200mm, but which one?
Jan 14, 2011

Well, I finally picked up a used Nikon 17-55mm 2.8 and I am loving it (pics to come). I also landed a used D300s to go along with my D200. It actually is a whole new experience with some of these "newer" body's. Faster coupled with a better low light sensor.

The biggest change is shooting with a nice lens! IQ is better and the lens is slick to focus and very quiet.

That being said I would like to replace my 18-200 VR with a 70-200 2.8......

Here is my question, to save a buck would the Sigma or Tamron lens do the trick or is the Nikon 70-200 2.8 more superior?

I own a Sigma 12-24 that I really enjoy for my wide angle stuff but I am also enamored with Nikon's pro line after shooting with this 17-55.

Also, if I buy a Nikon 70-200 is there much difference between the VR and the VR II?

also may consider 80-200 but might want the VR with a lens of that length for hand held stuff??? thoughts???
