Would you have thought these were paintings and not photographs?

If you had been shown these paintings but were told they were photographs, would you have accepted them as such?

In some respects, whilst I admire the artist's abilty to create these uncannily photo-realistic paintings, I wonder what the point he is trying to make? Is it simply to show that he can do it?

I realize that probably up close and personal, little things such as brush strokes, would have given them away. I also wonder whether the artist was working from actual photographs. The last one in the series shows pretty good background blur which to me would be very difficult to achieve from pure imagination.

Edit: He does copy photos so what's the point?
