Decided on getting a d7000 - which lens for europe trip?

So after much deliberation and going back and fourth and back and fourth between the d7000 and the 60d as well as reviewing about every review I could find on the 2 cameras in the last 3 months and looking at photos and feeling the cameras in my hand, I finally decided on the d7000.

Now my question is, to start out my lens budget is about $300-400, I will be spending more on some lenses later in the year, but for just starting out, I would like to get my feet wet.

I will be going to Europe in May so I will be shooting some landscape stuff, but probably mostly buildings and inside of churches etc. How is the 18-105 VR kit lens, or maybe I should get one of the 17-55's or 17-85?

Anyway, looking on recommendations on 1 or 2 lenses that would be decent with a budget of not more than $400. Eventually I would like to work my way up to nice glass, once my skills get better.
