D40 and D7000 JPEG Comparison Pictures
Jan 5, 2011

Few days ago I posted a thread about how I relegated the D7000 to full time landscape duty for its inability to create natural looking skin tones.

Today I did a direct comparison between the D40 and the D7000 to let you all know what I'm talking about.

The parameters were: ISO 400, F5.6, 1/125 shutter, SB-700 at manual 1/4 power, and auto WB on both bodies.

Picture control on D7000: Neutural, Sharpness 7, Contrast +1, Saturation +1, Hue 0

Picture contorl on D40: Custom setting, Sharpness +1, Contrast 0, Saturation +1, Hue 0

Here is D7000

It is pretty obvisous which one has a clearly better and accurate skin tone. The D7000 renders the skin in a pinkish manner which just looks very unnatural. On the other hand, D40's skin rendering is real.

I can assure you all that I look like the picture from the D40 LOL!
