Remote release, live view problem

I have the rs-80n3 remote. It worked well on my 20D. When I try to use it with my 7D, I cannot review my photo after taking the picture until I unplug the 80n3. I also cannot change viewing options with the 80n3 plugged in. Finally, if I plug it in before trying to switch to Live View, Live View will not activate. I have to turn on Live View first, then plug in the 80n3. I can then take the picture using the remote release, but still cannot review the image without unplugging the device. I've not found anyone else describing this issue, so I'm wondering whether there is some exotic setting I have missed.
