P7000 lens cover doesn't fully open

Hello,

I have just started researching P&S cameras for my mother. One thing that I see coming up repeatedly in threads relating to the P7000 is someone having to send in the camera for repair because the lens cover doesn't fully open when the camera is switched on.

If your camera experienced this issue, could you comment on the situation that triggered it, e.g., exposure to rain or dropping the camera? I haven't seen this type of issue mentioned in connection to the competition such as the Canon G12. I want to understand this issue better.
