Brand X lens to Nikon body adapters - effect on image quality?
Dec 28, 2010

I know that the register on Nikon bodies (46.5mm) basically prevents the use of third-party 35mm SLR lenses (e.g. Canon) on a Nikon body without an adapter that has a corrective lens element. That is, if you want to focus to infinity.

(a good resource for lens registers http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~westin/misc/mounts-by-register.html )

I also know that there are adapters equipped with corrective lenses to fix this - to an extent. I've read a lot about this small glass element affecting image quality, but I haven't yet found sample photos of this.

  • Could somebody point me into the right direction or provide pics taken with this kind of adapter (preferrably with 100% crops)?

  • Maybe with and without adapter comparison pics (focused nearer than infinity of course)?

  • Worst and best case scenarios? Is there an adapter that doesn't have any discernible effect on the image quality in real life? What adapter brands should I avoid at all costs?

Sample pics and details of the body+adapter+lens combinations would be greatly appreciated ..!

Thanks,
Kimmo
