60D or 550D? Is one better than the other with the 17-55mm lens?

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a 60D along with the 17-55mm lens. But having second thoughts on whether or not its overkill and just get the 550D instead with the 17-55mm lens..

As far as i can tell based on the reviews I've read, both camera's are very similar. Only extras the 60D has would be the articulating screen and the higher burst photo rate... Do I really need both?

I'm just starting out in photography, but would like a nice SLR..
