Why no subject distance in EXIF info?

Hi everyone. I hope you all had a good Christmas. I thought I'd pose a questions and see if anyone has an answer.
Why isn't the subject distance recorded as part of the EXIF info? The camera / lens obviously knows it. I mean, it's on the flipping lens. Does anyone besides me think it would be useful? I find myself looking at EXIF info on lots of pictures on the web and judging DOF and bokeh etc. by the aperture and focal length. Lots of times, I see a shot at say 200mm @ f/2.8 and it seems like they have way more DOF than I do when I shoot at those settings.
What do you all think?
